Anuncian box set de Tom Petty y presentan la primera canción inédita

«An American Treasure» es el título de un nuevo box set de Tom Petty que pondrá el foco en las canciones menos conocidas y algunas nunca publicadas del artista estadounidense. El primer single de la colección, «Keep a Little Soul», fue registrado durante las sesiones de «Long After Dark» (1982).

El videoclip presenta imágenes nunca vistas de Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. La viuda de Petty, Dana y su hija Adria encontraron «un tesoro» de material inédito mientras revisaban su archivo y trabajaron a partir de eso.

«Eran canciones que todos sentimos que realmente decían algo sobre papá», dijo Adria a Anthony Mason en el programa de televisión CBS This Morning. «Es una cosa tan extraña perder a alguien como él. Era mucho más genial de lo que la gente podía imaginar. Y creo que mucha gente pensaba que era genial».

Además de Dana y Adria, las productoras ejecutivas del box set, Mike Campbell y Benmont Tench (de los Heartbreakers) y el ingeniero Ryan Ulyate (que trabajó mucho tiempo con Petty) compilaron la lista de canciones.

La edición de lujo de «An American Treasure», que llegará el 28 de septiembre, incluye 60 canciones repartidas en cuatro CD, cada una dedicada a una década diferente. Incluye un booklet de 52 páginas con fotos inéditas y notas escritas por Bud Scoppa de todas las canciones. Esos textos están basados en viejas entrevistas con Petty y nuevas con sus colegas y familiares. Una edición de vinilo con seis LPs también estará disponible el 23 de noviembre.

Una Edición Limitada Super Deluxe agrega 32 páginas de fotos y ensayos, una litografía de las obras de arte de Shepard Fairey y réplicas de las letras manuscritas de Petty de cuatro de las canciones de la colección, además de un certificado numerado de autenticidad. Una edición estándar de dos discos contiene 26 de las 60 canciones, así como notas de Scoppa.
