Pink Floyd publicará el 29 de noviembre «The Later Years», un box set de 16 discos conteniendo todo el material de la banda post-Roger Waters, incluyendo grabaciones en vivo y pistas inéditas.
«The Later Years» incluirá cinco CD, seis Blu-rays y cinco DVD conteniendo todos los álbumes remezclados y remasterizados, con material previamente inédito, además de películas de los conciertos.
Hoy se dio a conocer una de esas grabaciones inéditas, un demo primitivo de «High Hopes» de las sesiones del álbum de 1994 «The Division Bell».
Originalmente, «High Hopes» cerró «The Division Bell», y en la letra incluye la frase que le da título.
Este versión demo tiene algunas diferencias claras en el nivel de mezcla, con la voz de David Gilmour a todo volumen junto al piano. En particular, la batería parece estar casi ausente, lo que le da una sensación más cargada y ominosa.
Entre los otros destacados de «The Later Years» está una nueva versión de «A Momentary Lapse of Reason», el álbum de 1987. Utiliza pistas de teclado recién restauradas de Richard Wright y baterías completamente nuevas de Nick Mason.
En el material sobresalen dos actuaciones inéditas de la banda. La primera es un concierto de 1989 en Venecia, realizado en un escenario flotante frente a la Plaza de San Marcos, que causó tanta controversia que el alcalde se vio obligado a renunciar. También hay un set de 1990 en los Premios Silver Clef en Knebworth, Inglaterra, que encontró a Pink Floyd encabezando una constelación de estrellas que incluyó a Paul McCartney, Dire Straits, Phil Collins y Eric Clapton.
También aparecerá tanto en video como en audio la última actuación en vivo de Pink Floyd con David Gilmour, Nick Mason y Richard Wright juntos. Se reunieron el 10 de mayo de 2007, en el concierto homenaje a su ex compañero Syd Barrett, el fundador de Pink Floyd.
También se presentará una versión restaurada de la película «Pulse», junto con un documental inédito de la grabación de «The Endless River», de 2014.
Para aquellos que consideren que el material es excesivo -tanto en cantidad de material como en costo-, se publicará una versión de dos LP o un CD con lo más destacado.
El box set servirá como complemento de «The Early Years 1965-1972», que documenta la carrera de la banda hasta el lanzamiento de «The Dark Side of the Moon», de 1973.
