Public Enemy está de regreso con una nueva y explosiva canción de protesta, «State of the Union (STFU)», en la que apunta directamente al presidente estadounidense Donald Trump.
Producida por DJ Premier, la canción encuentra a Public Enemy en «un ardiente regreso a la primera línea al enfrentarse a Donald Trump y su régimen fascista», según indica un comunicado de prensa.
El texto continúa diciendo: «Una declaración inquebrantable sobre la destrucción que la administración actual ha desatado en el país y su pueblo, ‘State of the Union (STFU)’ dice la verdad al poder e insta a las personas a luchar con su voto contra el racismo, la injusticia y la opresión».
Hablando sobre la canción, Chuck D dijo: “Nuestras voces colectivas siguen haciéndose más fuertes. El resto del planeta está de nuestro lado».
Y agregó: «Pero no es suficiente hablar sobre el cambio. Tenés que presentarte y exigir un cambio. La gente tiene que votar como si sus vidas dependieran de ello, porque de hecho es así». Flavor Flav, por su parte, comentó: “Public Enemy dice que es así. Es hora de que se vaya».

Y continuó: «Si realmente no sentís que es propicio decir ciertas cosas, simplemente quedate quieto hasta que encontrés las palabras correctas para eso. Y en este momento, no hay palabras para esta mierda. No tengo voz en este momento, porque cada emoción que tienen los jóvenes está justificada en este momento. Es emoción».
Los artistas que han lanzado canciones de protesta en las últimas semanas incluyen a Elvis Costello, The Killers, H.E.R. y Trey Songz, mientras que otros, incluidos Bruce Springsteen y Jay-Z, han compartido playlists de protesta.
